Describe every image with alt text

Tip · SEO & Google

Describe every image with alt text

Alt text tells Google, and people using screen readers, what each picture shows.

Google can't see your photos the way people do. Alt text is a short description that helps it understand them, and helps people who use screen readers.

  • Good: "Three-tier white wedding cake with gold flowers".
  • Not helpful: "IMG_4521" or a list of keywords.
  • In WordPress, click an image in the Media Library and fill in Alternative Text.
